The emergency device for motorcycles that is capable of detecting any accident that a motorist may suffer, automatically warning the emergency services
WHAT IS AN ECALL DEVICE
ACCIDENT DETECTION SYSTEM
Device fitted in the vehicle that is capable of connecting to the nearest emergency call center
AUTOMATIC WARNING TO THE EMERGENCY SERVICES
In case of a potential accident detection, the device sends an automati warning to the emergency services
DELIVERY OF VITAL INFORMATION
The warning includes key relevant information about the accident including time, exact location and severity of the accident as well as the victim’s medical data
HOW dOES IT OPERATE?
The eCall device has an accident detection algorithm. When it detects an accident, it automatically contacts with a PSAP point (Public Safety Answering Point) through the MSD protocol (Minimum Set of Data). The PSAP point manages all the emergency services that could be involved in an accident.
Once contact is made with the emergency services, the device sends the exact location, the victim’s information as well as how the accident occurred (output curve, frontal collision …). Once the relevant emergency services have been notified, they come to assist the victims, thus reducing the response time and increasing the chances of saving the lives of the injured.
As of March 31st 2018, all newly marketed cars in Europe are required to carry an eCall device on board. This was carried out in a European project called Heero.
After the success in cars, Europe has created the sAFE112 project with the objetive of defining the standardization and certifications of the eCall devices in motorcycles. The DGT (Spanish National Department of Traffic) proposed us as candidates to be part of this project, in which we are participating today as associated partner.
